Over the past decade, security has evolved from a supporting activity & overhead to an organizational requirement. This transformation in the organizational & government mindset occurred due to increased frequency of terrorist attacks in various countries. Be it 9/11 in United States, 7/7 in London or 26/11 in India. In addition to get converted into a dark memory & a number, every such incident imprints a deep sense of fear of disruption & insecurity in our everyday life. The effects of these disruptions caused by the terrorist incidents not only create havoc at the area of impact but also echo at the places far away. It happens because of globalization, the world is tightly knit into a web of supply chains. Hence, nations & organizations across the world have taken measures to secure their supply chains to prevent &, if occurred, accommodate the disruptions in most efficient manner. Hence, it requires a consolidated framework to incorporate the given context which has been provided in the detailed report.
Given report covers various economic impacts of terrorism and other calamities on the supply chains. It identifies the key security issues in & analyzes various security frameworks proposed by different institutions like World Custom Organization, Information Security Auditing & Control Association, Department of Homeland Security (US) & Total Security Management (TSM). After identifying the advantages and area of impact of these frameworks it was deduced that there is a requirement of a combined consolidated framework to ensure holistic security. Framing the requirements in the Standard creation framework (J. Hintsa, 2008) a new strategic security framework is proposed which can ensure end to end security in offshore supply chains.Proposed framework divides the entire supply chain in three levels and connects them with dynamic interfaces which ensure entity flow. It then defines security levels based on the available frameworks on the levels and interfaces. It covers the high level crisis management protocols in these interfaces. The report also consists of the comparison and issue handling assessment of the proposed framework against the existing frameworks analyzed. Finally, the report proposes the framework implementation strategies and key recommendations to ensure security & flexibility in the supply chain to efficiently withstand disruptions.
